Werewolf Wednesday…Night Wolf, Women Creating Horror (Month of Thanksgiving Day 9)

(Month of Thanksgiving is exactly what it sounds like: a [hopefully] daily dose of the things for which I give thanks during the month of November.)

Today I am thankful for werewolf movies and women creating horror.

From BloodyDisgusting.com: AFM ’11: ’13 Hours’ Becomes ‘Night Wolf’

Blurb: A full moon hangs in the night sky and lightning streaks across dark storm clouds. Sarah Tyler returns to her troubled family home in the isolated countryside, for a much put-off visit. As the storm rages on, Sarah, her family and friends shore up for the night, cut off from the outside world. But something comes out of the driving rain and darkness. Something that holds a dark secret so devastating that, in one night, it could wipe out the entire family. Trapped, Sarah and her brothers and friends must use their heads as well as their physical strength to survive not only the thing that is hunting them down one by one – but their own entrapment as the besieged group turns in on itself. Can they survive the horror stalking them? Or is their enemy already amongst them and has it always been? Can they survive for 13 hours?

BloodyDisgusting.com calls it a crappy werewolf movie, and I will agree that the werewolf image looks horrible, but I think it could be cheesy horror movie fun. I love stories about friends being trapped together in an isolated area, cut off from the rest of the world, and hunted by monsters, and therefore I will give this a try when it’s available.

From AfterEllen.com: What If Horror Films Were Made by More Women?

Not specific to werewolves, but I would be interested in more discussion of what horror movies by women would look like. Would they be different? Could they avoid the misogyny so prevalent in horror movies (the sex shaming, the sexualization of women, women as victims or villains only, etc.)? In addition to the paranormal romance and erotica, I also write horror, and I am intrigued by discussions of women in horror.
